Washington Sundar, born on October 5, 1999, in Tamil Nadu, India, comes from a middle-class family in Chennai. His father, M. Sundar, is a Ranji cricketer who always supported Washington's cricket aspirations. The family received help from an ex-army man named P.D. Washington. Washington's unusual first name is a tribute to P.D. Washington, who played a significant role in supporting the family. Despite financial difficulties, P.D. Washington provided for Washington's needs, covering his expenses, including clothing and tuition, and encouraging him. In gratitude, Sundar named his son Washington. Sundar expressed that if he had a second child, he would have named him Washington Jr. Washington Sundar has a sister named Shailja, who is also involved in cricket. Domestic and IPL Career
Washington Sundar made his first-class debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on October 6, 2016. Following in the footsteps of Tamil Nadu's Ravichandran Ashwin, Sundar transitioned from being a young batsman to gaining recognition as an offspinner. In October 2017, he achieved a milestone by scoring his maiden first-class century while playing for Tamil Nadu against Tripura in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy. Additionally, he was selected to represent India in the U-19 World Cup in 2016.
In 2017, Rising Pune Supergiant picked him as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sundar made his Twenty20 debut for Rising Pune Supergiants in the 2017 IPL on April 22, 2017. He earned the man of the match award in the IPL 2017 Qualifier 1 between Mumbai Indians and Pune Supergiants, showcasing a notable performance with three wickets for 16 runs.
During the 2018 IPL auction in January 2018, the Royal Challengers Bangalore acquired him. In October 2018, he was named in India C's squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy.

International Career
In November 2017, Washington Sundar was named in India's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series against Sri Lanka. Shortly afterward, he was added to the One Day International (ODI) squad due to Kedar Jadhav's injury. Sundar made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on December 13, 2017, taking his first wicket by clean bowling Lahiru Thirimanne. He also made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka on December 24, 2017, becoming the youngest Indian to debut in T20Is at the age of 18 years and 80 days.
In March 2018, he was part of India's squad for the 2018 Nidahas Trophy against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Sundar received praise for his economical bowling and achieved a 3-wicket haul, making him the youngest T20I player to do so. He was named the player of the series.
Sundar became a regular member of the Indian Twenty20 team and played a crucial role. Initially selected as a net bowler for India's 2020-21 Australia tour, he unexpectedly earned his first Test cap on January 15, in the final Test match at The Gabba.
